Scope and Contents
Correspondence and papers regarding Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s business dealings in Japan. There are letters from F.H. Bugbird to [H.V.] Henson, 26 March 1939 (typescript copy); A.E. Cooper to D.G.M. Bernard, 6 April 1939 (manuscript); and D.G.M. Bernard to B.D.F. Beith, 14 April 1939 (typescript). The remaining papers are a memorandum from Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, to B.D.F. Beith, 15 May 1939, enclosing a five-page typescript copy of an account by A.E. Cooper of the development of the strawbraid export business at Kobe, 31 March 1939; an undated newscutting on the Japanese Steel Works at Muroran, Hokkaido; and a page of manuscript notes on Henson.
