The principal correspondents are David Jardine, Joseph Jardine, Alexander Matheson and Donald Matheson. The other correspondents include W.R. Blakely, A.G. Dallas, Frederick Firth, George Mackintosh & Co., John Hine, Andrew Jardine, Miss R.J. Jardine, William Jardine, Andrew Johnstone, Captain Thomas Larkins, M.A. Macleod, Magniac & Co., Hugh Matheson, James Matheson, Revd John Matheson, W.F.S. Matheson, W.S. Most of the documents are in a sequence numbered 1-280, which begins with a 'List of old letters kept in the private office, 3, Lombard Street, London. March, 1938'. The unnumbered items include a 'The farewell to East Point', a typescript copy of L12/2 - an account of the farewell dinner to East Point held on 31 December 1923. There is no indication of when the copies were made. The folder is labelled 'Old Letters from No 3 Lombard St. 1832 onwards'.
