Scope and Contents

The ring-binder is labelled '1954/55 Private & Confidential Singapore' and is numbered 43. It is divided into seven sections:

1. Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd Shares: correspondence and telegrams exchanged between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd, Singapore, with related letters and papers, including summaries of telephone conversations between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd, Singapore, 3 April 1954-20 September 1955.

2. Alan Waugh: correspondence and telegrams exchanged between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 15 July-28 December 1955, with related letters and papers, including correspondence of Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with H.A. Waugh (Alan Waugh), Tunbridge Wells and elsewhere, and a list of shareholders of Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd.

3. Insurance: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd, Singapore, 7 July 1954-30 October 1954, with 'Notes on Henry Waugh's Insurance', 6 July 1954, and statements of Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd's profit commission for the years 1950-1953, dated 16 July 1952-29 March 1954.

4. John Little & Co. Ltd: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd, Singapore, 10 January-15 April 1955, and a copy of a hand-written letter from J.H. Keswick, Singapore, to R. Gordon, 8 December 1954.

5. Bangkok Banking Facilities: three pieces of correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd, 9-22 March 1954.

6. Plantation Agencies Ltd: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd, 11 January 1954-6 April 1955, with a memorandum entitled 'Possible formation of a joint company formed by Kennedy, Burkill & Co. Ltd. and the Rubber Estate Department of Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd.' by F. Weatherly, Hong Kong, 28 May 1954; a memorandum on discussions held in Hong Kong during the visit of D.I. Bosanquet of 18-23 March 1955 regarding Malaya and Borneo, by D.I. Bosanquet, Singapore, 4 May 1955; and a copy of a letter from J.M. Howie, c/o British Borneo Timber Co. Ltd, Sandakan, North Borneo, to J.H. Keswick, 26 March 1955, regarding Howie's possible recruitment as chief accountant and secretary.

7. Miscellaneous: correspondence between Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Henry Waugh & Co. Ltd, with related letters and papers, 6 January 1954-16 February 1955. The papers include a memorandum on 'Sharp & Dohme/Parke Davis Pharmaceuticals. Hongkong Agency', February 1954.
