Scope and Contents
Copies of property correspondence between Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, and Jardine Matheson, Tokyo, with enclosed letters and papers:
1. A copy of letter no. P.1 from R. Gordon, Shanghai, to W.J. Keswick, London, 6 May 1952, regarding the Howard Estate, including a letter from Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, to H.E. Howard, Southampton, 6 May 1952, and a statement of Howard's accounts for November 1946 to December 1950.
2. Copies of letters nos P.48-52 from W.J. Keswick, London, to H.H. Lennox, Shanghai, 4 May-31 August 1951, regarding the Howard, Falconer and Whistler Estates.
3. Copies of letters nos P.1 and 3-5 from H.H. Lennox, Shanghai, to W.J. Keswick, London, 8 May-13 August 1951, regarding the Howard, Falconer and Whistler Estates. No. 2 has been transferred to another file, but there is a sheet listing its contents.
4. A copy of letter no. P.1 from J.H. Keswick, Shanghai, to F.A. Pollock, Tokyo, 15 February 1950, regarding a potential visit to Japan by H.M. Spence.
5. A copy of letter no. P.1 from W.J. Keswick, London, to F.A. Pollock, Japan (Tokyo), 9 October 1950, regarding the Kobe Office.
A note at the start of the volume records that there was no property correspondence between London and Shanghai in 1950, between Shanghai and Tokyo in 1951 and 1952, and between London and Tokyo in 1951 and 1952. A later note records that there were no letters from London to Shanghai in 1952.
