Original property letters nos P.1, P1A, P.3, P.4, P.7-11, P.11A, P.12-15, P.25A, P.26-31, P.33-68, P.72A, P.72B, P. 76A, P.119, P.122-149, P.149A, P.150-156 and P.158-201 from R.M. Austin, B.D.F. Beith, John Johnstone, J.J. Paterson, J.H. Keswick, W.J. Keswick, F.A. Pollock and A. Brooke Smith, Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, to B.D.F. Beith, D.G.M. Bernard, David Landale and J.J. Paterson, Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with enclosed letters and papers, including a photograph of the Hungjao Bungalow, enclosed with no. P.148 of 18 November 1932. B.D.F. Beith and John Johnstone worked in both offices during the period covered by the correspondence.

Nos P.1A and 11A from the Book Office, Shanghai, and P72A, P.72B and P76A from the Property Office, Shanghai, have been renumbered in pencil as property letters. No. P.25A, 7 March 1924, was originally a semi-official letter no. 337, but has been renumbered in pencil. No. P.66, 23 May 1925, was numbered originally P.134, but has been corrected in pencil. Notes indicate that many of the property letters were destroyed, usually because they were only letters of acknowledgement.
