Scope and Contents

An incomplete set of copies of semi-official letters from Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, to Balfour, Guthrie & Co. Ltd and Balfour, Williamson Inc., New York, with enclosed letters and papers. The file includes some notes indicating that certain semi-official and other letters can be found in other files.

1. Nos 1-21, 23-26 and 28 from R. Gordon and (mainly) J.H. Keswick to A. Davidson, C.E. Thompson and A.S.R. Williamson, Balfour, Guthrie & Co. Ltd, 2 February-28 November 1953. A note records that no. 27, 26 November 1953, can be found in a subject file.

A note records that no. 3 can be found as an enclosure to semi-official letter no. 149 from Hong Kong to London. There are also two unnumbered private and confidential letters from D.C. Geddes, 4 September 1957, and H.D.M. Barton, 4 October 1957, to C.E. Thompson.
