Scope and Contents

Restricted semi-official restricted letters from Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, to Matheson & Co. Ltd, London and Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, with enclosed papers:

1. Copies of letters nos R.14-16, R.18-22, R.24-31, R.33-42, R.44-48, R.50, R.51, R.53, R.54 and R.58-60 from R. Gordon, D.F. Landale and E.F. Watts, Hong Kong, to J.H. Keswick (mainly) and H.H. Lennox, Shanghai, 19 September 1949-19 December 1950. No. 60, which was originally missing from this file, has been replaced with a photocopy taken from J1/136.

2. Originals of letters nos R.13, R.17, R.23, R.32, R.43, R.49, R.52 and R.55-57 from R. Gordon and D.F. Landale, Hong Kong, to W.J. Keswick, London, 15 September 1949-16 August 1950.

The ring-binder is labelled 'Restricted Letters From Hongkong - File I'. There is a note at the front of the file regarding letters nos R.1-12 (missing from this set of copies), which were transferred to the restricted series from the series of semi-official letters from Hong Kong to Shanghai.
