Scope and Contents

Property correspondence of Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and semi-official correspondence of Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, and Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, with enclosures. Most of the correspondence is with the British West Indies.

The subjects covered include Japan properties and the lease for 21 Yamashita-cho.

Original semi-official letter no. R.G.1 from R. Gordon, Jardine, Matheson & Co. (Caribbean) Ltd, Port of Spain, Trinidad, to H.D.M. Barton, Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, 10 March 1958, informing him of the return of the Firm's Private Supplement to Bentley's Second Phrase Code.

Ltd, London, 24 January-11 April 1958, with one unnumbered letter from Gordon, San Francisco, to Keswick, London, 21 March 1958. No. 6 encloses a report on Trinidad, including sections on politics, Federation, budget, social problems, oil, Caribbean Resorts (Trinidad) Ltd, Colonial Development Corporation, tourism, East Caribbean Currency Commission, housing, warehousing, McBride and George F. Huggins & Co.

2. Copies of letters nos R.G. 17, 18, 21 and 22 from W.J. Keswick, Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, to R. Gordon, Port of Spain, 28 January-5 March 1958. Nos 19 and 20 have been transferred to other files, but there are sheets listing their contents. The letters are preceded by a copy of semi-official letter no. 265 from W.J. Keswick, London, to G.J.P. Carey, Port of Spain, 28 January 1958.
