Scope and Contents
Telegrams sent or received mainly by branches of Jardine, Matheson & Co. in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Canton and Yokohama. E1/1-20 are volumes containing the text of telegrams. These include telegrams exchanged by Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong and Shanghai, with correspondents in Hong Kong, Shanghai, London and Calcutta, principally Matheson & Co. and Jardine, Skinner & Co. (E1/1-3); telegrams exchanged by Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, with correspondents in Europe, America, South-east Asia and other areas (E1/4-15); a record of telegrams despatched by Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong (E1/16); and telegrams of Jardine Matheson, Shanghai and Yokohama (E1/17-20). E1/21-48 are comprised predominantly of sets of loose telegrams.
