Scope and Contents
A wide range of accounts, reports and other papers of Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd dating mainly from the post-war period, including copies of papers relating to its subsidiaries and associated companies belonging to the company's Hong Kong and Shanghai offices. The papers are divided into six main sections:
A9/1-4. Reports and memoranda of Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd, mainly relating to agencies.
A9/5-7. Papers regarding shipping, including papers produced by Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd in its role as Agents of the Indo-China Steam Navigation Co. Ltd.
A9/8-13. Papers of Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, including material regarding the settlement of outstanding business prior to its closure.
A9/14-16. Papers regarding the closure of the China agencies of Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd and related companies.
A9/17-20. Annual reports and accounts of Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd.
A9/21-33. Other papers, including minutes, reports and accounts.

Access to the collection is subject to special conditions and is at the discretion of Matheson and Co. Ltd, part of the Jardine Matheson Group. Some of the papers formed part of a set of records of Jardine Matheson, Shanghai, which was stored at the British Consulate General, Shanghai, on the closure of the office in 1954. For further details see semi-official letters no. 39 from Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, to Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, 3 August 1966 (see J1/138/35), and no. 569 from Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong, to Matheson & Co. Ltd, London, 23 August 1966 (see J1/121/34).
