Scope and Contents

Miscellaneous business records from Japan of Jardine, Matheson & Co. and other companies, including many press copies. The papers include documents regarding silk, including lists of shippers of Japan silk, 1869-1870; papers concerning the Takasima Colliery, including a two statements of sales and deliveries in Nagasaki of Takasima coals received from Goto Tankosha, Nagasaki, 6 August 1880 and 8 October 1880; a list of properties destroyed in house godowns by a fire at Yokohama, 26 November 1866; a list of estimated stocks and future supplies of rice by Herbert Smith of Jardine, Matheson & Co., Yokohama, 16 May 1870; a statement of outturn of weight on Japan rice shipped to Hong Kong, dated Kobe, 1 August 1872; and a table of particulars of the cargo of coal of the 'Ocean', 1880.
