Scope and Contents

Manuscript accounts of Joseph Jardine, with related letters and other papers:

1. Accounts current of Joseph Jardine with Matheson and Co., London, December 1852-December 1859, either annexed to or accompanied by covering letters from the firm to Jardine in Hong Kong, February 1853-February 1860, and including some original envelopes.

2. Account of Joseph Jardine with a saddlers, whip and harness-makers, 1851.

3. Letter from Andrew Glover (factor on the Lanrick and Castlemilk estates) to Joseph Jardine, Hong Kong, 12 January 1858, regarding the factory accounts of the Castlemilk estate.

4. Letter from Andrew Glover, Lanrick Castle, to Joseph Jardine, Hong Kong, January 1858, explaining in detail the factory accounts of the Castlemilk estate for the years ending 31 December 1855 and 31 December 1856, and including the original envelope.

5. General game certificate of Joseph Jardine for the year 1852, issued by Donald Lamont, Surveyor of Assessed Taxes, Dumfries, 16 August 1852.

6. 'Note of Particulars of the Estate of Warmanbie in the Parish of Anna and County of Dumfries, the Property of [D.A.] Carruthers Esq.', 26 March 1857.

7. Bills of exchange in favour of either Jardine, Matheson and Co. or Arthur Paget, 1857-1859.

8. Two receipts for payments made jointly by Andrew Jardine and Hugh Mackay Matheson for their share in New £3 per Cent. Annuities, 4 May 1859.

9. Two copies of a report of an examination of a grey gelding, 11 October 1851.

10. Letter from Andrew Glover to Joseph Jardine, 12 September 1852, containing a list of books 'as I think will minister to your appetite for old ballads, proverbs and legends', with the original envelope.

11. 'Recipe for the Bale fruit wine' by P. Young, Seamens Hospital, Hong Kong, undated.
