Miscellaneous memoranda and accounts, 1831-1879
Scope and Contents
The documents are in English, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, and are dated Bushire, Campeche, Chin Chew, Chusan, Constantinople, Galle, Guatemala, Honam, Lima, Mazatlán, Namoa, Pakhoi, Papeete, Penang, Pernambuco, Rangoon, Saigon, Singapore, Suez, Tuticorin, Woosung and elsewhere. They include a printed extract of a letter from the P. and O. agent at Suez; a memorandum from Rear-Admiral George Elliot regarding truce arrangements, Chusan, 1840; a memorandum regarding Yezd and Isfahan opium, with statements of shipments of Persian opium; a statement of teas settled, Honam, 1858; a memorandum of the cost of silver bars, Mazatlán, 1854; a memorandum of 'Occurrences in Chin Chew Bay', regarding opium trading, undated; opium accounts, Chin Chew and Woosung; a memorandum regarding charges on cotton, Pakhoi; a bill for the 'Cumberland' for charges incurred at Lima; a memorandum of charters and settlements, Saigon; an order of tea to be shipped to Lima; a memorandum of sales in bond in Valparaiso; orders from New York and San Francisco for silk from Guatemala and Campeche; and copies of telegrams received from Jardine, Matheson and Co. by Todd, Findlay and Co., Rangoon. The documents include reference to Brown and Co.; Howland and Aspinwall; Parrott and Co.; India; and the First China War.
