Scope and Contents

The documents are in English and Spanish, and include memoranda of charges on goods; a memorandum regarding a cargo of rice; a statement of the affairs of John Shillaber; a deed of co-partnership between Eugenio de Otadui, John Shillaber and James Adam Smith, 8 November 1838; a proposed circular regarding the continued existence of E. de Otadui & Co., in contradiction of an advertisement issued by James Adam Smith (2 copies); a bill for provisions presented to Sir Thomas Cochrane; an instrument of protest and declaration made by the master and two other crew members of the 'Aallotar', 1865; a memorandum headed 'Manila Mint', regarding the purity and value of gold; invoices and memoranda regarding B.A. Barretto & Co.; and a memorandum of insurance policies covering property in Mandaloyan, 1894. The documents include reference to Thomas Cochrane; Samuel Jeremiah Foster; G. Mackrill Smith; Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation; Smith, Macleod & Co.; 'Aallotar'; coconut oil; diplomacy; and shipping.
