Memoranda and accounts: Australia and New Zealand, 1834-1892
Scope and Contents
The documents are dated Christchurch, Dunedin, Fremantle, Greymouth, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney and York, and include stock and sales accounts for tea; a notice of an auction sale of tea; indents, orders and memoranda regarding the purchase of tea and other goods in China; lists and memoranda of teas suitable for shipment to Melbourne, and miscellaneous other memoranda regarding the tea trade; memoranda of coal shipments from Newcastle; 'List of Documents and Papers forwarded to Messrs Jardine Matheson & Co. of Hong Kong, relative to the claim of Mr D.M. Joubert of Sydney against the French ship l'Entreprise of Nantes, Captn Briancon', c. 1850; a memorandum from J.O. Moody to Henry Henty regarding aspects of the tea trade, Melbourne, October 1881 (2 copies); a telegram from Henty to 'Barretts' (possibly B.A. Barretto), Manila, routed via Hong Kong, 1872; memoranda regarding the preparation of gold bars at the Royal Mint, Sydney; and a testimonial in favour of Lawrence Le Guay(?) from Fred Trouton, Sydney, 1892. The documents include reference to Robert Harper; Samuel Lyons; W.E. Marmion; J.H. Monger; Montagu Pym; Brown & Co.; Edwards & Hunter; Fraser & Co.; James Henty & Co.; Neill & Co.; Hobart; auctioneering; and metal.
