Scope and Contents

The documents include memoranda regarding the cost of tea; particulars of tea and sugar musters; statements of tea exports; reports of imports, exports, sales, averages and stocks of opium; stock and sales accounts for opium; 'Provisional Rules for Steamers trading regularly at Amoy' (possibly c. 1862); a memorandum regarding iron work required for new godowns; a memorandum regarding the career of M. Fitzgibbon, 1832-1860; circulars from the British Consulate in Amoy regarding building works and opium regulations; a memorandum regarding contracts and shipments of sugar on account of Jardine, Matheson & Co.; a memorandum of charters made; statistics on the movement of Persian opium, 1867-1868; a memorandum regarding cotton landed; and a letter from Henry Smith to William Keswick, 1869. The documents include reference to J. Backhouse; Henry Beveridge; Boyd & Co.; R.M. McMurdo; C.H. Russ; Dodd & Co.; Elles & Co.; Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation; Tait & Co.; diplomacy; fabric; property; and shipping.
