Memoranda and accounts: Macao, 1835-1838
Scope and Contents
The documents are in Chinese, English and Portuguese, and include many relating to B. Barretto. There are accounts regarding weights of and charges on betel nuts, rattans and other merchandise; receipts for cargoes received from Jardine, Matheson & Co. and others; documents regarding cargoes of cotton from the 'Cornwallis'; a disbursements account of the 'Trinidad'; letters from B. Barretto to Jardine, Matheson & Co.; sales accounts of rice and ebony; memoranda regarding opium transhipped to the 'Cornwallis'; and a freight list of the 'Earl of Clare'. The documents include reference to James Clark; C. Fearon; 'Lady Hayes'; fabric; metal; opium; pepper; silver; and timber.
