Documents re Jardine Matheson's property, 1873-1876 (including copies of documents of 1872)
Scope and Contents
A compilation of documents regarding the property of Jardine, Matheson & Co., apparently made in connection with a reconstruction of the partnership; dated Hong Kong, 1873. The documents include copies of a memorandum on the value of various properties held by Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s partners; copies of journal entries made in the books of the firm, April 1872; a memorandum of W. Paterson regarding property at Foochow, with valuations; a memorandum of Edward Whittall on property at Yokohama, with valuations; a memorandum of F.B. Johnson on property at Chinkiang, Hankow, Kiukiang, Newchwang, Ningpo, Shanghai and Tientsin; and press copies of journal entries regarding Jardine, Matheson & Co.'s property and partners' private accounts. Some of the copies have annotations. There is also a memorandum of assets, liabilities, accounts liable for immediate payment, and monies received; a memorandum of values associated with properties and locations in China; and a memorandum of terms agreed upon between James Whittall, Edward Whittall and F.B. Johnson for the settlement of the partnership accounts [London], 13 March 1876.
