Scope and Contents

The documents are in English, French and Spanish, and are dated Calcutta, Hong Kong, London, Manchester, Shanghai, Singapore and Whampoa. They include memoranda regarding consignments of fabric goods from Horrockses, Miller & Co.; memoranda regarding damaged and misdirected goods; memoranda regarding weights and valuations of cotton shipped by Jardine, Skinner & Co., with invoices for cotton; invoices of goods forwarded to London from Manchester; a memorandum regarding passage money received by the 'Reiver', Singapore; memoranda regarding shipments of guano; a memorandum of the particular average claim on rice on the 'Ellenborough' from Calcutta; a note of charges on coal; a letter from Thomas Hunt & Co. to Captain Williams of the 'Leonidas' regarding the shipment of spars from Oregon to Hong Kong; a bill to Jardine, Matheson & Co. for the conduct of Singapore agency business; memoranda of disbursements for the 'Glengyle', Ningpo, Hankow and Yokohama; a memorandum regarding the cost of gold, Hankow; and a memorandum of agreement between Samuel Stephen and Yan[?] Yok & Co., regarding a shipment of merchandise from Macao to San Francisco aboard the 'Cyphreues'[?], with a manifest of the vessel and related papers. The documents include reference to Armero; Carlowitz & Co.; Margesson & Co.; 'Glensannox'; Fray Bentos; Ningpo; Preston; bullion; freight; metal; and tea.
