Miscellaneous memoranda and accounts, 1852-1875

Scope and Contents

The documents are dated Amoy, Bombay, Calcutta, Canton, Foochow, Hong Kong, Lyon, Macao, Manila, New York, San Francisco, Shanghai, Sydney, Tientsin, Whampoa and elsewhere. They include statements of coal received and expended on account of Jardine, Matheson & Co., Calcutta; other memoranda regarding coal; dispatches from Tientsin, possibly from Henry Beveridge, regarding diplomatic and military affairs, marked up for printing, dated September-November 1875; notices of rates on various tenements in Hong Kong, 1864; memoranda of sundries to be advertised for auction; memoranda and receipts for the purchase and supply of office and shipping stores and provisions; memoranda and stock accounts regarding lumber; a note of the weight of opium shipped to Hong Kong, dated Lyon; sales accounts of tea, New York; memoranda of masts on board the 'Queen of England'; memoranda regarding the cost of teas, Foochow; sales and stock accounts of opium from the 'Hellas', Lookong; a stock list and memoranda regarding Thomas Hunt; memoranda regarding the Hongque yard, Shanghai; memoranda of opium exported from Bombay, some showing the names of exporters; a statement of imports of tea for 1862, dated San Francisco; and memoranda from the Royal Mint, Sydney. The documents include reference to Daniel Patridge; Canton Insurance Office; Howland & Aspinwall; Jardine, Skinner & Co.; 'Carthage'; Yokohama; and shipping.
