Scope and Contents

The documents are dated Bombay, Calcutta, Canton, Chefoo, Hankow, Hong Kong, Nagasaki, New York, Ningpo, Macao, Shanghai, Singapore, Tamsui, Tientsin and Yokohama. They include memoranda regarding the condition of damaged goods, merchandise in godowns, ships' cargoes, bills receivable, receipts and disbursements (many regarding shipping), wages and petty expenses, stores supplied, drug orders, and repairs to property; sales and stock accounts of opium, some relating to the 'Wild Wave'; opium returns; coal stock accounts of Thomas Wallace; a completed questionnaire regarding the opium market, Calcutta, 20 August 1828; and a list of 'The Ladies for the Club Ball', undated. The documents include reference to Augustus Howell; John Lamont; H.C. Maclean; Heerjeebhoy Rustomjee; H. Shank; Thomas Sullivan; William Thom; Canton Insurance Office; Ferguson & Co.; Magniac & Co.; Milisch & Co.; 'Hellas'; 'Lady Hayes'; 'Mahamoodie'; 'Reiver'; 'Rona'; camphor; fabric; and teak.
