Scope and Contents
The documents are in English and French, and are dated Amoy, Batavia, Calcutta, Danzig, Foochow, Hong Kong, Iloilo, London, Lyon, Manchester, Macao, Manila, Penang, Saigon, San Francisco, Shanghai, Singapore, Swatow and Takao. They include memoranda of premiums for the Canton Insurance Office; Amoy stock accounts, 1860; memoranda regarding building work in Takao, 1860-1861; notes of remittances; memoranda of Matheson and Co., London; outturns of specie and treasure, Foochow and Shanghai; a memorandum of agreement between John Dudman and John Macvicar regarding a voyage of the 'Royal Charlotte', London, 1831; particulars of the steam tug 'Pilot Fish', Hong Kong, 1881; statements relating to the Luzon Sugar Refinery, Manila, 1881; 'Remarks on the two Baskets Amber', Danzig, 1833; a memorandum of betel-nut exported from Penang to Lintin and Macao between 15 June and 15 August 1833; memoranda regarding charterers, cargoes, disbursements and shipping contracts; 'Plan for establishing a Deposit Bank at Singapore by Subscription...', c. 1830; and a memorandum regarding the failure of Fairlie, Clark, Innes and Co., and the resulting actions of Charles Thomas and Co., dated Singapore, 1833.
