Scope and Contents
The documents are dated Amoy, Bombay, Calcutta, Châlons-sur-Marne, Hong Kong, London, Macao, Manchester, Mirzapore, Nagasaki, Penang, Preston, Shanghai, Sydney, Swatow, Whampoa and Yokohama, and include invoices of coal from Sydney and elsewhere, and invoices and particulars of other commodities from various places; 'Memo. of Accounts bearing unusual rates of Interest'; a statement of loss on a cargo of tea damaged by sea water, and related documents, dated Sydney, July 1859, with another statement of damage to tea, December 1859; memoranda of recoveries of insurance accounts; memoranda of wages and petty expenses, Shanghai, 1860; a memorandum and contract regarding a mortgage of household furniture to James B. Endicott; a general stock account of the 'Banshee', July 1859; a memorandum of account of the estate of the late F.W. Green; a statement of sales of timber, Hong Kong, 1860; a memorandum and bill regarding a shipment of glassware, undated; a memorandum of coal delivered and expended to the steamers 'Spark' and 'Spec', Macao, 1868; a cash account for the Swatow Sugar Refinery, 1879; and a list of Hong Kong properties owned by and under charge of Jardine, Matheson and Co., with memoranda regarding tenements, rents, etc., 1856-1872 and undated. The documents include reference to Adolphe Collin; J.F. Crockett; Ruttonjee Eduljee; Vernon Smyth; Thomas Sullivan; Brown and Co.; Gillespie, Moffatt and Co.; Thomas Hunt and Co.; Jardine, Skinner and Co.; 'Minim'; Foochow; Montreal; bulli; cotton; fabric; fire engines; opium; property; shipping; silk; wine; and yarn.
