Scope and Contents
The documents are dated at Bolton, Canton, Hong Kong and Liverpool, and include expenditure and repair accounts for shipping; 'Remarks on tea', a market report from Lloyd, Matheson & Co., Liverpool, April 1853; the manifest of the 'Glenearn', 1874; uncompleted returns of merchandise exported from Amoy, 1840s; two copies of a 'Statement regarding 38 boxes Bar Silver, shipped to the consignment of Moncreiff Grove & Co., Shanghae on joint account & risk of James Ewing & Co. and Maitland Ewing & Co.', c. 1858; an invoice from Ormrod & Hardcastle to Jardine, Matheson & Co. for shirtings, dated Bolton, 1851; a memorandum regarding the purchase of tea at Foochow by Augustine Heard & Co.; a memorandum of Madras cotton on hand, dated Canton, 1852; a list of musters from the ship 'Lady Mary Wood', dated Hong Kong, 1854; and a diary of transactions, charters and shipping movements, 1858-1861. The documents include reference to Robert Jardine; Thomas Moncreiff; David Sassoon; Ormrod & Hardcastle; 'Falcon'; fabric; and metal.
