Scope and Contents
Papers of insurance companies for whom Jardine, Matheson & Co. served as agents or managers and documents of related firms. The series contains many insurance policies, as well as a wide range of related material concerned mainly with the shipment of insured goods. The largest set of papers relate to the Canton Insurance Office, and the remaining companies are represented by smaller bundles of documents. The papers originate from Australasia, China, Great Britain, India, Indochina, Japan, Philippines and the United States.
