Scope and Contents

The inscription in the volume reads 'Judith Bond. Writ by my father in 1682 for the use of the Lady Bond his mother. And this book I gave to my nephew Charles Jermyn Bond at Huy the 18 of August 1749, that he be obliged to keep it in memory of gis grandfather who writ it'. Charles was the son of Henry Jermyn Bond of Bury St. Edmunds (d.1749) and Jane, who married Thomas, 1st Viscount Gage as his second wife. Henry's sister was Judith, who lived for a time at Huy near Namur, and who died in 1797. Their father was Thomas Bond of Bury St. Edmunds. It is not clear whether this was Thomas Bond's own work or a transcript from an unidentified French text. In a tooled and gilded red-leather binding.
