Scope and Contents

The unidentified writer (whose brother Matthew died 19 OCT 1720 (fo. 2v), was probably a Roman Catholic priest, at first attending (or perhaps ministering at) the Portuguese Embassy Chapel in Warwick Street London. In 1732 he moved to Bury St. Edmunds, where he was engaged as private tutor to Charles Jermyn Bond (d.1760), son of Henry Jermyn Bond (d.1748). Brief daily entries; typically rose late; much attention to weather; people whom he met; no mention of religious duties.
