Conditions Governing Access
In his first letter to Sassoon (MS Add. 9375/878), Tomkinson apologised for using a typewriter but explained that 'my writing is generally said to be illegible'. In her letter of 2 January [1938] to Tomkinson (MS Add. 9926/3/2) Penelope Betjeman returned some notes to him saying 'I couldn't read a word of them so they were useless'. Readers intending to consult MS Add. 9926/2 may wish to bear this difficulty in mind.
