The letters were assembled by Paul Standard and sent to Carter in a portfolio, on the cover of which is inscribed: 'Collective thanks from the Typophiles of New York to Will Carter, esp. exacted at pistol-point during March,1940 by Paul Standard, M.A. With Paul Standard's letter to the Typophiles (mimeographed) and Will Carter's circular letter of thanks (lithographed) dated 26 Feb. 1941.
