David Gregory's Fluxions, c1700 - c1750
Scope and Contents
The Macclesfield Collection principally comprises the archives of John Collins (1625-1683) and William Jones (1675-1749). As well as being mathematicians in their own right, both men corresponded with leading scientific figures of their day and so the collection includes autograph material by Isaac Newton, Edmond Halley, Henry Briggs, Roger Cotes, Henry Oldenburg and Robert Hooke.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
This Newton manuscript has significant iron-gall ink corrosion. There is no evidence of any mechanical damage in the form of cracks or losses, but there is a risk that these may occur if the pages are flexed too much. Therefore, when handling it is important to observe the following advice: keep pages flat and avoid flexing to reduce risk of cracking degraded areas.
