Copies of letters from Neil Benjamin Edmonstone (1765-1841), mostly to members of his family
Scope and Contents
[These letters (with the exception of /26) are fair copies transcribed into a letterbook by a clerk or (in a few cases) by NBE. They fall into two series: the first (/3-/27) comprises letters from NBE to correspondents (mostly near relations) in Britain; the second (/29-/39), which runs from the rear of the volume, letters from NBE to G.F. Cherry, the Company's Resident at Lucknow and Benares. All the letters (with the exception of /17) were written at Calcutta, and each item in the first series includes the name of the vessel on which the letter was sent home.]
