Exhibita files, 1540 - 1700
Scope and Contents
This class of document includes all types of material produced in court and established before the Vice-Chancellor as a record, or in the course of University administration. The first file is somewhat confused and seems to have been reconstituted. Up to ca 1615, the normal order of the files seems to have been: 1) bonds; 2) cause papers (articles, allegations, libels, interrogatories, responsa, exceptions, taxed costs, bills, bonds, and occasional depositions) and administrative documents (decrees, licences, draft letters, memoranda about building work, narratives of college disputes, etc.); 3) proxies; 4) registers of privilege, presentments for flesh eating and unlicensed brewing. Thereafter, there appears to be less sorting by document type.
