Scope and Contents

A view of the building, which stands at the corner of Bridge Street and Gresham Street, taken from Macquarie Place. A sandstone building in the Corinthian manner and designed by J.F. Hilly, the foundation stone was laid in 1853 and the building opened four years later. The two upper floors of the building were added later by A.F. Pritchard. This picture was taken in 1901 at the earliest, the flags hanging on the building having among them the flag of the Federated State of Australia. The building was demolished in 1965.
