Scope and Contents
285 x 230 mm. Lyne gives a detailed description of Chief Semese, Paramount Warrior Chief of the Elema on p. 93. He poses beneath the flag while a sailor motions him to stand still, and people gather on either side. The photograph is an original for an illustration in Lyne, p. 117, and entitled 'Hoisting the British Flag'. It is also reproduced as an engraving in Chalmers' 'Pioneering in New Guinea', p. 202, entitled 'Keep still, Johnnie'.
