Lange Nek [Laing's Nek], 1881
Scope and Contents
142 x 97 mm. A view showing part of Lange Nek. The exact location is unidentified but the line of earthworks are probably the Boer trenches beneath Table Hill. The battle, which took place on 28 January 1881, with the British force under the command of Sir George Pomeroy Colley (see Y3055A/5) was another British defeat. The Boers, secure in their defensive stronghold, inflicted casualties of 84 men killed and 113 wounded against losses of 14 dead and 27 wounded on their own side.
