Scope and Contents

1160 x 72 mm. A 360 degree panoramic view of Zanzibar Town composed of 12 joined prints. The reverse of the photograph is annotated: 'Circular view of Zanzibar taken from flagmast on Usagara House. Roof of bungalow in foreground'. Chandler's house, Usagara House, appears to have been situated at the western end of town behind Main Street. The prominent features in the panorama are the clock-tower of the Beit el Ajaib (section one), the spires of the Roman Catholic Cathedral (section two), the spire of the Anglican Cathedral (section three), the wireless station aerial (section four), the Mnazi Mmoja Recreation Park (wooded area at the junction of sections four and five), and the Museum (white dome at junction of sections five and six).
