Scope and Contents

103 x 81 mm. View looking down on the thatched mission buildings. These are probably the buildings nearing completion in print 117. An accompanying note reads ‘Mpwapwa was first tentatively occupied by Shergeld Smith & his party of missionaries, including Alexander Makay on their way to Uganda for the first time in 1876. They used it as an intermediate base. Then Mpwapwa became the first C.M.S. Station of German East Africa. It was permanently occupied after Dr Baxter arrived there in 1878.’ Two copies.
