Headmen of expedition, 1889-08-02
Scope and Contents
Duplicate of Y30468K/4. A group portrait of 13 Swahili headmen, armed with rifles and arranged in two rows. Gedge briefly records the occasion in his diary: ‘Took a couple of photos of H/men; too seedy to develop’, and on August 3rd: ‘In evening developed plates and found two I took of H/M are good ones but some small plates I did for J[ackson] were all fogged badly. It is evidently a mistake to keep plates too long in slides out here as the light does seem to leak into them somehow. If not developed they should at once be packed up’.
