Scene on Guaso Nyiro R., Mau Forest, 1889-09-26
Scope and Contents
155 x 113 mm. A view looking upstream towards a small waterfall on the River Guaso Nyiro with overhanging vegetation on either bank. Gedge’s diary states: ‘Started as usual at 7. Thick forest walking bad Progress v. slow. Road up and down steep gorges. Got to the Guaso Nyiro about 2 hrs from the start … took some photos of the waterfall up above…[Later] developed photos and turned in.’ The next day however, ‘My photo box containing chemicals, etc. went trundling gaily away downhill by itself. How I did rave and stamp about vowing most dire vengeance on the swine who let it drop and he got it.’ The box was presumably recovered.
