A view showing prayers being read by the Liwali of Chwaka (probably with Kadis of Chwaka and Unguja-ku on each side) during the foundation stone ceremonies at the Sultan’s new bungalow (see Y30468A/33). To the Liwali’s left stand T.J. Last, Dr Spurrier and three other Europeans (named as Messrs Buzzacott, Mackertich and Macintyre but not individually identified here). Photograph by J.T. Coutinho. The ceremonies are reported in detail in the ‘Zanzibar Gazette’ for 25 April 1900.
