Funeral of Sir Lloyd William Mathews, Saturday October 12 1901, 1901-10-12
Scope and Contents
236 x 174 mm. A view looking down from the temporary light house onto the square in front of the Beit-el-Ajait and the harbour beyond. The funeral procession is leaving Mathews’ house preceded by a double line of marines carrying reversed arms. Directly in front of the coffin walks a firing party of marines with British officials walking behind the gun-carriage. Mathews died of malaria on October 11th.
