James Carmichael Smith Sierra Leone Collection II. c.1910-11, 1890 - 1911
Scope and Contents
An album containing mounted prints, mainly measuring approximately 205 x 145 mm. Some prints are captioned (in ballpoint pen) by Miss Walton Smith; typewritten captions are by D.H. Simpson; captions composed for untitled prints are enclosed in square brackets.
Illustrated in the album are: the garden party held to celebrate the coronation of George V in 1911, Governor Probyn and staff and the Governor's departure in 1910, general views of Freetown from the 1890s - c.1910, and group photographs of James Carmichael Smith and friends. Miss Walton Smith has identified the numerous garden party photographs as relating to the coronation celebrations of 1911, but it is possible that some of the prints relate to other occasions. Photographs by Lisk-Carew Brothers, Dionysius Leemy and others.
