During the second fight, 1898-09-02
Scope and Contents
160 x 89 mm. A view looking out over the battlefield during the second phase, with dervish corpses lying in the foreground. The second phase was a much more hard won affair during which there were many perilous moments, especially when the Khalifa brought up his Black Flag army to strike at Kitchener's right flank as his Green Flag army came down from the hills to the north. The two armies did not coincide and by 11.30 am the remnants of the Khalifa's armies had been driven off to the desert in the west, utterly broken.
