163 x 113 mm. A view showing the group at the start of the campaign. Exact location unknown. The Sirdar, General Kitchener, faced the camera. The other figures have their backs to the viewer. Major General Sir William F. Gatacre was in command of the British Brigade on the Nile. Lieutenant (later Colonel) Ronald George Brooke was Gatacre's orderly during the Atbara and Khartoum campaigns. Captain (later Lieut. Colonel) James Kiero Watson was one of Kitchener's ADCs. He served in the same position in the Boer War and was later (1905-14) 1st ADC to the Khedive.
