Scope and Contents
285 x 245 mm. One of the group, seated in the front row, is identified on the back as Sir Frank Swettenham; the other, standing at the rear has no identification. Sir Frank Swettenham (1850-1946) was advised by his elder brother Alexander to apply for a cadetship of the Straits Settlements. He arrived in Singapore early in 1871 and from then until his retirement in 1904 had a distinguished career in Malaya, culminating in his appointment as Governor in 1901. During his long retirement he continued an active interest in the affairs of Malaya.
