The buildings are of a similar style and were built during the same period. The main building of the hospital contained 18 wards with a total of 237 beds for the relief of the native poor of all classes. The East India Company paid half the costs, the rest being supplied by the merchant and philanthropic Sir Jamsetji Jijibhoy (1783-1859).
