Kolossi Castle, 1965
Scope and Contents
231 x 172 mm. Showing the square tower of this ancient castle originally in the possession of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: 'Near Limassol. Dating probably back to 1210 when granted by Hugh I to the Order of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. Later passed into the hands of the Knight Templars and later to the Hospitallers, who held three 'commanderies' in Cyprus. Hence the famous wines of Cyprus bear until now the name of Commandria'.
