The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: 'This the greatest of all the city-kingdoms of Cyprus, was founded in 1184 B.C. by Teucer, son the king of the Greek island of Salamis, after the end of the Trojan war. Rich and highly cultured, Salamis is reputed to have ranked second only to Athens in the olden days. In this picture the Marble Forum'.
