Bird's eye view of the Gzira, 1912
Scope and Contents
284 x 241 mm. A finely detailed view looking east from Gzira towards Maramuxett Harbour. In the foreground the characteristic terraces of small fields enclosed by dry-stone walls slope down towards the sea front, with Manoel Island in the centre of the photograph, part of Sliema at the left and Valletta and Fort St. Elmo at the right. The old fort and modern military barracks can be seen on Manoel Island which is joined to the mainland by a man-made causeway. Battleships are moored in Sliema Creek to the north of Manoel Island.
