Scope and Contents

Showing Africans playing board games in the common room of the centre. The typewritten caption on the reverse reads 'Voici la salle de réunion du Foyer Social pour indigènes évolués d'Astrida, au Ruanda. Ce foyer, dont la construction a été achevée en 1948, contient, outre cette salle, une bibliothèque, une salle de fêtes équipée pour les projections cinématographiques, un ouvroir pour les femmes d'évolués, une pharmacie et une salle de consultation pour nourrisson. Derrière le bâtiment sont aménagés des gradins où tous los indigènes du Centre extra-coutumier peuvent assister à des représentations cinématographiques en plein air'. Photograph by J.
